Act-Listen-Engage

A few thoughts captured during conversations with various stakeholders:

-Be more on guard for any instances of “unnkindness” that can occur, or moments when students/student facilitators aren’t sure how to navigate difficult moments

-Be sure adult volunteers stay tuned in to the conversations between students to hear when this happens

-Give volunteers a specific list of duties, with a “cheat sheet,” so they know what to and not to do.

(The training calls and guides I organized weren’t enough, it seems. Instead, detailed prompts for volunteers would have helped so they didn’t help too much or not enough).

-Cycle students in and out of workshop to continually check in on their progress. This will help eliminate any confusion and it can be addressed during the session instead of after.

-Provide students with a presentation template so they understand even more about what their final product should look like.

-Other similar ventures: Thomas Edision competition; Odyssey of the Mind

-Tech stuff: broadcast messages, cohost duties, enable chat with all

-Students weren’t sure what to do when they tried to steer their peers down one road, but one particular person would keep derailing the conversation, even after the student facilitator stated their idea didn’t fit within the parameters

-Some student facilitators didn’t feel comfortable leading the DT workshop

(I got the guide to them far later than I wanted to, and the meetings I hosted for them should have been structured differently).
